In Mumbai, there are nine new food places to explore.

Celebrate the new year at one of the city's newest restaurants. Everything from paneer tikka and seafood pizzas to sodas and sangrias is available here.

Are you excited to try something new in 2023? If it's food and drink you're after, Mumbai offers plenty of options

Native Bombay, Ballard Estate
Do you want to eat real Indian food in an ice plant turned art gallery? Native, which is housed within the huge IF.BE, takes pleasure in delivering food that is unashamedly Indian at heart, but with subtle theatrics. Sip negroni drinks filled with exotic flavours ranging from coconut and curry leaves to passionfruit and pandan on the first level. On the second, select from over 100 delicacies from Rajasthan, Nagaland, Kashmir, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and other states. A dynamite
Their Naga chilli pork will make you cry—for the best reasons—due to the blend of spices. Paan paneer tikka, maska prawns, and Jodhpuri ker sangri are other must-orders. The atmosphere is visually grounded, with exposed brick walls, wood panels, and rustic furnishings (retained from the original factory)—a reminder that you are surrounded by both visual and culinary art.

HOTL, Girgaon
HOTL's allure is built on a balance of flavours and atmosphere. HOTL, which opened in the area previously held by The Quarter and is set against the spectacular background of the Royal Opera House, provides meals that is complimented by live, in-house jazz performances. Nico Goghavala and Kamal Sidhu, the seasoned restaurateur pair who previously owned the enormously successful Nico Bombay in Fort, are behind this 120-seater restaurant, which is located in a location that is nothing short of historic. The menu includes Indian, Italian, and Mediterranean fare, as well as seafood, drinks, and house-made sodas. Nico's specialty pizzas, the most famous of which is his Neapolitan pizza, are also available.

Millo, Lower Parel
Millo at Kamala Mills is the first Mumbai offering by Sharmila Shah and Sujit Mehta of We Serve hospitality. The blue and white design adds brightness throughout the day and refinement at night. There are Mexican, Italian, and European meals with a twist on the entirely vegetarian menu, such as their chilaquiles filo cups (flaky squares with cold guacamole, refried beans, and pico de gallo), the Turkish variation bajri vada topped with babaganoush, and the 5 Spice Bao (served with chestnuts, summer greens, and peanut crunch). Their beverages are blended with international flavours. Shades of emerald, a drink made with green apple, basil, and elderflower, is a tribute to Ireland, and Junkanoo's fresh minty-pine nutty flavours are inspired by the namesake festival.

Bizza, Bandra
Bizza, Bandra's hot new opening this season, comes from the same team that brought you Bastian. Bizza does not advertise itself as an Italian restaurant. It does, however, provide a delectable selection of handmade pizzas, pastries, and beverages to be savoured slowly against a backdrop of beautiful patterns and colours. Asian, Mexican, Peruvian, and other non-Italian flavours are available, as well as classics like the mushrooms and truffle pizza and novel combos like the miso aubergine and blue cheese pizza. Seafood fans may also choose from a variety of toppings, including mussels, prawns, tuna, and salmon. If you want something lighter, don't miss out on their brief antipasti and salad menu. Aside from classic cocktails, Bizza offers spirits such as tequila, mezcal, and pisco, as well as liqueurs such as umeshu.

Demy, Lower Parel
Demy at Kamala Mills is a large new restaurant and cafe with an unusual cuisine and a calming ambience that is ideal for any time of day. Demy has something for everyone, from avocado toast and chicken dimsums to dal makhani and kulcha, whether you're looking for a fast nibble, a real sit-down dinner, or simply a decent drink. Their beverages menu is diverse, offering classic cocktails and mimosas alongside Demy's distinctive sangrias, such as the Rosso Aperol, which is made with Aperol Liqueur, orange and apple juice, granulated sugar, red wine, and dried fruits. Where is the best spot to sip them? On the third story, there's a breezy outdoor garden terrace with stylish cabanas.

Julius, Lower Parel
The Julius dining experience strives to be suitable for a king—or perhaps the Roman emperor who inspired the restaurant's name. The decor is lavish, with sapphire chesterfield sofas, hand-painted chandeliers, and gold-framed mirrored embellishments. Feast on European cuisine influenced by Sicily, Greece, regional France, south Germany, Turkey, and other places. The golden egg, quail galantine, jambon de Paris, orchid consummé, broccoli, and blue cheese foam are among Julius' royal treats. Their menu also includes market salads, soups, spaghetti platters, and various grilled meats and seafood. Pair your dinner with fine wine from France, Italy, or the United States.

Caffè Allora, Worli
Do you want to pick the herbs that go on your favourite pizza? Worli's newest Italian location, Caffè Allora, includes an in-house hydroponics garden where you may go from plant to plate with basil, oregano, or rosemary. Apart from elevating "handpicked flavours," the café aspires to replicate the essence of a family-run bistro. In an open kitchen, hand-rolled pizzas and flavorful pastas are created. Thin-crust pizza fans should try their famous Napoli pizza.

Zerua, Worli
Ashish Kambli developed Zerua, a movable rooftop eating area with magnificent views of the Mumbai cityscape. Zerua is made up of 14,500 square feet of air-conditioned mobile cabanas made of natural materials. Sushi, tacos, Asian wok bowls, and salad bowls are available at live stations. A specifically designed cocktail menu features barrel-aged cocktails as well as zero-waste cocktails produced with quick infusions, foam washing, cream washing, and fruit leather clarity.

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), Dadar
Pizza fans, rejoice! California Pizza Kitchen has returned to downtown Mumbai. CPK's newest store, located in Dadar's Kohinoor Square, is a colourful venue that, like their food, mixes Californian and Indian inspirations. You can eat their classic hand-tossed pizzas, such as the original BBQ chicken and Thai chicken, or try one of their new items, such as the avocado super green pizza (topped with cilantro pesto, smashed avocado, crisp lettuce, and cucumber), black bean quesadillas (with cheddar cheese, sliced red onion, and serrano chillies), or their dynamite shrimp served on a bed of crispy rice noodles. Choose from one of their renowned pastas, crisp salads, or tiny platters.
